Professional Career
Nathan Ake is a Centre back playing his club football for Premier League club Manchester City and the Dutch national team. He was born on February 18, 1995, at Den Haag, Netherlands, and began his football career in the year 2001 at VV Wilhelmus youth club.
Despite being the youngest in his academy team, he performed better than the rest of his teammates, however, he was shy. This did not limit him as he continued to show a promising talent in the backline and he attracted Ado Den Haag scouts prompting the club to sign him.
His talent was noticed by Feyenoord and his parents were key aiders of the transfer forcing him to leave Ado Haag to explore new opportunities at just 11 years. The move was important for his career as it prepared him for the future, he assisted his team to win the youth tournament.
At the age of 16 years, Premier League club Chelsea sort his service and Ake personally saw a huge opportunity prompting him to face the club’s technical director Leo Beenhakker and tender his intent to leave the club and explore life in a big club.
The club was left with no option but to let go of their first team perspective. On arrival at London, Ake was conjoined to the Chelsea youth team. On December 26, 2012, he made his debut in the Premier League coming on as a substitute for Juan Mata in a 1-0 win over Norwich City.
Chelsea sent him out on loan on three occasions to reading, Watford, and Bournemouth that finally signed him and after 105 appearances with three goals to his name, he joined Manchester City on August 5, 2020. He made his debut for the club in a 3-1 win over Wolves on September, 21 and after two weeks scored his first goal for the club.
