Professional Career

Martinelli began his career at the age of nine in futsal playing for the Corinthians team before joining football club Ituano in 2015. He scored 122 goals in the futsal Metropolitan Championship before shifting gears to football in 2012.

In 2015, Ituano FC a fourth division club in the Brazilian league was impressed by his play style and they signed him beating Manchester United and Barcelona as some of the big clubs that were interested in him.

He made his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Campeonato Paulista as the youngest player to ever debut for the club at 16 years and scored the first goal against Taboao da Serra in Copa Paulista as Ituano won 4-1 on September 8, 2018, as he finished as the club’s top scorer in the competition having netted six goals.

With this great performance from him, he was Brazilian team ahead of the Copa America in May 2019 and this became his turning point as the demand for his signature rose and Arsenal signed him and on his debut, he scored in a non-competitive 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids.

In the Premier League, he made his first appearance in a 1-0 win over Newcastle on August 11, 2019. He scored a brace in the EFL Cup 4-0 against Nottingham Forest and in October he scored another brace in the Europa League. He became the first player to score in his first four consecutive games after Ian Wright.

In his first season at Arsenal, he scored 10 goals across all completions but in the second season, he only registered two goals. He began the 2021-22 season on a high note scoring four times and assisting twice in his first 13 league games.

Despite his father being of Italian origin, Martinelli a dual citizen of Brazil and Italy chose to represent the Brazil national team upon a call up in May 2019 by head coach Tite as the team prepared for the Copa America competitions.
