Professional Career for Edouard Mendy
Born in Northern France, Mendy began his football career playing for third tier French football club Cherbourg.
In 2016, he joined Reims, became the first choice goalie, and helped the club to win League two after conceding only 24 goals the lowest in the league.
After three years at Reims, he joined Rennes in the 2019-20 season, during his first season at Rennes; he just conceded 31goal and kept 13 clean sheets in 33 games. He helped Rennes to book a ticket for Champions League for the first time after finishing third in League 1.
Having signed for Chelsea in September 2020, Mendy quickly adjusted to life at Stamford Bridge recording six clean sheets between October and November. He finished the 2020-21season with 25 clean sheets 16 being in the Premier League and 9 in the Champions League being the highest for any player in his debut season. He was critical during the Champions League crash against Manchester City with a solid performance where he denied Raheem Starling with an early save that could have put City ahead. This performance ensured Chelsea were crown champions of Europe the second time.
Mendy is the Senegal first choice goalkeeper, however in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Mendy was injured after two games and missed the rest of the competition. He first debuted for Senegal in 2018. Prior to playing for Senegal, he had represent his father country of origin Guinea-Bissau in a friendly match against Portugal before declining to commit playing for Guinea-Bissau during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
