Darwin Nunez was playing in a local club called La Luz until the age of 14 when he joined Penarol. In his 6-year stay at the club, he first featured in November 2017.

Almeria A Spanish Segunda club signed him in August 2019 for a record fee. He played for a year and finished among the top scorers with 16 goals and transferred to Portugal joining Benfica.
