Professional Career for Bukayo Saka

Early Life

He was born September 5, 2001 and was named Bukayo Ayoyinka T. M. Saka, however he is common known by many as Bukayo Saka. Born of Nigerian descent origin parents, Saka was born and raised in London, England. He went to a primary school known as Edward Betham Church of England Primary School. Thereafter, he joined Greenford High School.

The young Saka began his football career playing at the Greenford Celtic, he changed his club and joined Watford until 2008 at the age of 7 years when Arsenal scouted and signed him for their academy team.


Saka joined Arsenal academy at Hale End from Watford youth team when he was seven years. After ten years he promoted to the under 23 team and he signed a contract with the club. He marked his debut against Vorskla Poltava on November 29, 2018 in Europa League.

Coming as a substitute for Alex Iwobi in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Fulham, Saka set a premier league record as the first player born in 2001 to debut in the Premier League. September 19, 2019, he scored his first goal and registered two assist in 3-0 Europa League win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

2019-20 was the breakthrough season for Saka as he won the FA Cup with Arsenal and established himself as a first team player. The genesis of his breakthrough was the injuries suffered by Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney forcing Arsenal to use him as a left-back.

He scored in the fourth round of FA Cup at Bournemouth and assisted in 2-1 win, his goal was voted by BBC as goal of the fourth round. Also, he scored his first Premier League goal in 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. July 1, 2020 he committed his future with the club by signing a long term contract.

After finishing the 2019-20 season as third position in the Player of the Season, Saka finally won the Player of the Season award in 2020-21 season after impressing in his 32 EPL appearances scoring five goals and providing three assists.

His international game dates back to August 2016 when he first represented his county in the under 16 under Dan Micciche who was the coach, Saka was 14 years old and he made six appearances in which he scored one goal. Steve Cooper included Saka in the under 17 team debuting in August 18, 2017 at age of 15 years. He played nine games thereafter and registered one goal.

 He part of the under 17 team that participated in the under 17 UEFA European Championship hosted by his country, they were however eliminated at the semifinals by the Dutch team through penalties but Saka scored his penalty.
