Professional Career

Early Life

Antonio Rudiger a Centre back playing his club football at La Liga club Real Madrid was born in Berlin, Germany on March 3, 1993. He began his career in 2000 at VfB Sperber Neukolln; he played for different youth clubs including Borussia Dortmund and in 2011, he signed for Stuttgart.

VfB Stuttgart

Rudiger signed for Stuttgart on February 1, 2011, on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund. He made his debut at the under 19 level on September 20, 2011, in a 4-2 win over Karlsruhe U19. He made four appearances in his first season.

He then joined the Stuttgart II featuring first on July 23, 2011, against Arm. Bielefeld in 3. Liga. On April 7, 2012, Rudiger scored his first goal for the club in a 4-1 over Babelsberg 03 and received his first red card in a 2-2 draw with Darmstadt 98.

His first-team appearance was in a 3-0 defeat at home to Borussia Monchengladbach in Bundesliga on January 29, 2012. His first Bundesliga goal was against Hoffenheim in a game they won 6-2 on September 1, 2013. He scored two goals for the club in his 80 appearances for the club before joining Roma.

AS Roma

Roma signed on a season-long deal from Stuttgart on August 19, 2015, with an option of making the deal permanent. He played his first game for the club against Frosinone in a game they won 2-0. At home on January 9, 2016, he managed to put the ball behind the net for the first time. He also scored another goal to make two in his 37 appearances of the loan period.

With his good display, the club was convinced he was good enough for a permanent deal and signed him on a four-year deal for nine million pounds on May 30. 2016. Chelsea

The deal to sign Rudiger happened on July 9, 2017, when the club paid 29 million pounds to sign him. Unfortunately, in his debut game which was a final, Chelsea lost to Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup. Rudiger had come on as a substitute for Marcos Alonso.

To add woes to his debut games, they once again suffered defeat in the Premier League six days later at the hands of Burnley at home, as they conceded 3-2. In a 2-1 win over Everton in the knock-out stage of the EFL Cup, he scored for the club his first goal.

In his first season, he played 45 games, scored 3 goals, and assisted twice. In the second season, he scored once against Manchester United in 44 games. During the third season, Rudiger’s games were cut down due to injury as he featured 26 times and scored two goals both in the Premier League.

During the 2020-21 season his fourth with the club, he crossed the 100 games mark after 34 games across all competitions and scored one goal. He was key to the squad that won the Champions League after defeating Manchester City at Estadio do Dragao.

Real Madrid

Ridiger signed for Real Madrid on a free transfer from Chelsea for a four-year contract on June 2, 2022. He went on to play his first game for the club in the UEFA Super Cup win against Frankfurt after being introduced as a substitute. He scored his first goal against Mallorca in a 4-1 win on September 11, 2022.

Germany
